Special Needs Trust
A special needs trust is one which provides a permanent provision for the care of a child who is handicapped.  In this type of trust, a fund or an income producing property is transferred to a trustee, usually a trust institution, to provide for the lifetime maintenance and comfort of the designated beneficiary with special needs.  Through this type of trust, the child with special needs is assured that he is taken cared of even after the parents have long passed away.
